My payment was declined
Why a card payment doesn't go through when you buy photos, what to try, and the message you see when an order is below the minimum amount.
In short
When a card payment is declined, it is almost always your bank saying no, not ZebraSnap. Banks block online charges they don't recognize, especially from a new store or in another currency.
What usually fixes it:
- Check the card details: number, expiry date, security code and postal code.
- Call your bank or open its app and approve the charge (or turn on online and international purchases), then try again.
- Try a different card, or another payment method if the payment page offers one.
We can't approve a declined payment from our side, and we can't mark you as a trusted buyer. The decision belongs to your bank and the payment processor.
Why it happens
- Your bank didn't authorize the charge. This is by far the most common cause. Messages like "declined" or "do not honor" mean the bank refused without telling us why. Only your bank can tell you the reason.
- A detail didn't match. One wrong digit in the expiry date, security code or postal code is enough.
- The payment processor flagged it as risky. Stripe runs automatic fraud checks. Now and then a real payment gets blocked. Trying again later, or with another card, usually works.
- Not enough balance or a spending limit on the card.
Trying two cards from the same bank often fails the same way, because the same bank rules apply. A card from another bank is a better test.
"This order is below the minimum amount we can charge"
Card payments have a minimum amount (about US$0.50 in any currency). If the photographer set a very low price, the total can end up below it and the payment can't start. There is nothing wrong with your card: ask the photographer to raise the price, or add more photos so the total goes over the minimum.
Other ways to pay
- Mexico: you can pay in cash at OXXO or by SPEI bank transfer when the photographer sells in Mexican pesos. See Pay with cash at OXXO or by SPEI transfer.
- Latin America: some photographers sell with dLocal Go, which offers local methods depending on the country. They appear on the payment page when available.
Were you charged anyway?
If the money left your account but you didn't get the Payment received screen or the order email, don't pay again. Often it is a temporary hold that your bank releases in a few days. If it doesn't disappear, or you were charged twice, see A problem with my order.
Security
Payments are handled on a secure, encrypted page by our payment processor. ZebraSnap never sees or stores your full card number.
