How discounts and coupons work

Discount types (percentage, fixed amount, fixed total price and price per photo), conditions, caps, the "all your photos" package and which discount applies when several match.

In short

Each album can have one or more discounts. A discount has two parts:

  1. The type - what it does to the price: percentage, fixed amount, fixed total price or price per photo.
  2. The condition - when it activates: buying a certain number of photos, buying every photo the buyer appears in, or entering a coupon code.

Buyers see the available discounts on the album and event pages, and the discounted total is calculated automatically in the cart. Tip: after creating a discount, add photos from your own album to the cart and check the total - you don't need to pay to verify it works the way you expect.

Percentage

Subtracts a percentage from the subtotal of your album's photos.

Example: you sell photos at $100 and configure 10% off when buying 3 or more photos. Buying 3 photos, the subtotal is $300 and they pay $270.

Fixed amount

Subtracts a fixed amount once from your album's order total. It is not a per-photo discount.

Example: you sell photos at $100 and configure $30 off when buying 3 or more photos. Buying 3 photos they pay $270 ($300 − $30). Buying 5 photos they pay $470 ($500 − $30): the discount applies only once.

Fixed total price

The buyer pays that total for all the photos that meet the condition, no matter how many there are. It works like a package: "5 or more photos for $600".

Example: you sell photos at $170 and configure a fixed total price of $600 when buying 5 or more photos. Buying 5 photos they pay $600 in total. Buying 8 photos they also pay $600 (unless you set a cap - see below).

Careful: this type is not a per-photo price. If what you want is "from 3 photos, each photo costs $79", use Price per photo.

Price per photo

Each photo drops to that price once the condition is met. The total always scales with the number of photos.

Example: you sell photos at $99 and configure a per-photo price of $79 when buying 3 or more photos. Buying 3 photos they pay $237 (3 × $79). Buying 5 photos they pay $395 (5 × $79).

Minimum quantity and optional cap

Quantity-based discounts activate from the minimum quantity you define, and also apply to any larger quantity ("3 or more").

If you sell packages and don't want someone taking 20 photos at the 5-photo package price, add a maximum discounted quantity: photos above the cap are charged at list price.

Example: fixed total price of $600 when buying 5 to 8 photos, with a $170 base price. Buying 8 photos they pay $600. Buying 10 photos they pay $940 ($600 for the first 8 + 2 × $170).

All your photos (face recognition)

This discount activates when the buyer adds every photo their face appears in to the cart. For the system to know which photos are theirs, the buyer has to search for themselves with a selfie in the album.

Important:

  • If the buyer adds photos manually without having searched with their selfie, this discount does not apply - the system has no way of knowing those are "their" photos.
  • After searching, they can add the photos with the "Add all" button or one by one: both ways count.
  • If any of their photos is missing from the cart, the discount does not apply yet; the cart shows how many are missing and invites them to search if they haven't.

Coupons

Any discount type can require a coupon code. Coupon discounts are not shown publicly on the album: the buyer types the code in the cart and, if the condition is met, the discount applies.

If the buyer enters a valid coupon, that coupon takes priority over the album's automatic discounts.

Which discount applies when several match?

For each album in the cart only one discount applies, chosen like this:

  1. A valid coupon always wins.
  2. Among quantity packages (fixed total price or price per photo), the one with the highest minimum met wins: with "3+ for $450" and "5+ for $600", a 6-photo purchase pays $600. The order you created them in doesn't matter.
  3. Between the winning package and the other discounts (percentage, fixed amount, all your photos), the one giving the lowest total for the buyer applies.
  4. A discount that doesn't lower the price is not applied: configuring a fixed total price above the subtotal never makes the purchase more expensive.

Discounts are per album: if the cart has photos from two of your albums, each album evaluates its own discounts separately.
