Buying a domain through ZebraSnap

How buying a domain with us works, what is included, and what happens after the first year.

What you get

When you buy a domain through ZebraSnap, we register it on your behalf and set everything up so it serves your portfolio in minutes. The price includes:

  • One year of domain registration.
  • WHOIS privacy so your home address isn't published in the public WHOIS database.
  • Automatic SSL with auto-renewal, forever.
  • Auto-renewal of the domain itself, charged yearly to your card on file. If you don't want it to renew, turn off Auto-renewal on your domain in Settings โ†’ Custom Domain: it then stays yours until the end of the year you paid for.
  • DNS records you can manage yourself, to set up email or extra subdomains.

You keep ownership of the domain throughout. If you ever leave ZebraSnap and want to move it to another registrar, contact us and we'll help you transfer it.

How much it costs

Most TLDs start at $19/year. .io and a few others run higher. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay - no asterisks, no first-year promos that triple later.

After payment

  1. We register the domain at our registrar (this takes ~30 seconds).
  2. We set the DNS at the registrar to point at our servers - you don't need to do anything.
  3. We provision the SSL certificate.
  4. Your domain goes live. We email you when it does.

Total time from payment to live: usually under 10 minutes.

Renewals

We email you 30 days and 7 days before renewal so there are no surprises. On the renewal day we charge your card.

If the renewal charge fails, we email you - update your card right away. We retry shortly after, and if that also fails the domain expires and stops serving your portfolio. Once your card is updated, press Renew now on your domain in Settings โ†’ Custom Domain to renew it on the spot. The button also works for a while after the domain expires, and renewing brings your portfolio back online. If the button is no longer there, contact us as soon as possible: the longer you wait, the harder recovery gets.

Email

We don't host email. If you want you@yourname.com, set it up at any email provider you like (Google Workspace, Fastmail, Zoho Mail, ProtonMail) and add their MX records yourself: in Settings โ†’ Custom Domain, open DNS records under your domain and add the records your provider gives you. The records that keep your site working are marked Protected and can't be edited, so you can't break your portfolio by accident. Be careful with MX and TXT records your email provider relies on.
